This channel will mostly be centered around living aboard, operating, maintaining, and cruising a 44 foot DeFever trawler named M/V Aqua-Cultured. However, there will be a healthy mix of videos highlighting beautiful aquatic scenery and adventure in saltwater and freshwater environments.

Well, my 1 year old Marinaire marine air conditioner recently stopped working in the middle of the afternoo...
Down To The Line! Trying To Keep My Plans Afloat

One of the worst things you can do in boat life is to let a schedule dictate your plans and actions. Unfortunately, that is easier said than done. My goal for almost a year was to cruise down to the Florida Keys for at least a couple of months this summer. There were many boat projects that I needed to complete to have her ready for the trip, and I was also due for my insurance renewal which re...

As I continue to prepare for yet another haul out of M/V Aqua-Cultured for an insurance renewal survey and miscellaneous out of water projects, just as anything goes on a boat, some things did not go as planned, some worked out great, more money was spent, and deadlines were tight. The plan was to replace a fuel line, change my fuel filter elements, install some heat shield deflectors on my Rac...

Big plans are on the horizon for Motor Vessel Aqua-Cultured! I've decided to head south to the Florida Keys for an undetermined amount of time this summer. As hot temperatures are rapidly approaching, and since I will be headed to an even more tropical climate, the first order of business is to replace ...

Welcome aboard my "Trawler" for a Tech Talk with Captain Butch. I discuss the origination of the term Trawler, and what justifies calling a certain type of boat a trawler. This has always been a commonly debated topic among the cruising community who has a particular affinity for "Trawler Style" vessels and the "Trawler Lifestyle" as a whole. I give you my take and opinion on the matter, which ...

After 4 days of cruising aboard a 2004 64' Hatters Motoryacht, we successfully made the trip from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico (Ft. We traversed some more locks on the Caloosahatchee River, carefully navigated through the hurricane decimated Ft. Myers region, experienced a beautiful zen-like of...

In part 2 of cruising a 64' Hatteras Motoryacht from Ft. Lauderdale to Tampa Bay, we deal with some nasty weather transiting from Stuart, Florida to Clewiston, which is on the western edge of Lake Okeechobee. We see some interesting sights, including an army of Fleming Yachts, as we cruise the ditch heading west toward the Gulf of Mexico. I was also pleasantly surprised with a celebrity DeFever...

Amazing! Thank you for sharing this video. She is magnificent. Greetings from Madang, Papua New Guinea!
So if you buy one of those haunted island that no ones want to buy for less than 50k and you have a place rent free, with land to grow food and to raise chickens for life Edit: better yet get a few families to put in and buy the island together, 5 families 10k each and everyone lives happily
Thanks for this video! I like how you’re straight to the point in all your videos and tell it like it is. We’re new to boats in general and we like the idea of a trawler, so your content is spot on for us. Appreciate it!
Nice video on the passage

Interested to know why you never used the water maker?
I have never been in a situation that I needed it. I can go 2 weeks on a tank of water, so I am normally back in a marina well before needing to refill the tanks.
Just found your channel. Looking forward to reviewing your older content and your new videos as they come out. I am currently looking at purchasing a boat and am trying to do the research in order to make a more informed decision. The boat I found is very beautiful and fits everything I have been looking for but it has a major issue that has caused me to stop for a moment and do some more research. The boats owner passed away almost 7 years ago and the boat has been in probate. It is now free to be sold. It has been sitting for all those years and been looked after by a skeleton crew who have supposedly done the maintenance work and even brought in techs to review equipment like the motors. I dont know how much money i am going to have to put into the boat to bring even just the electronics up to modern standards or if the current equipment is functional and has the ability to safely navigate. Not to mention all the extras that might need to be replaced such as life raft dinghy etc. I hope I can find some information on your channel about refits and the yards that do them and what some of the unknown items might encounter. Thanks
Thanks so much for following along! I hope you find the videos helpful. If there is anything outside of what is on the videos that you have questions about, let me know and I will do my best to provide you with answers.
@@AquaCultured much appreciated
Fun to watch cant wait to get on the water someday
Thanks so much Steve!
Pretty cool
Butch, fantastic tour of your great boat. Better than 99% of the broker videos that I view. Was a bit surprised to see this come up in my feed as I've followed you for a bit and knew how well you cared for her. Never mind the haters. Good luck with your sale. Cheers, from Los Angeles.
Ron, that means so much! Thank you so much for your support!
For someone to post that the boat is over priced without actually seeing the boat is out of line. If all the boat’s systems are in good working order and if the canvas, teak, paint/gelcoat and interior is in good condition the boat appears to be priced very realistically. I think a more accurate statement from the wannabe’s would be they wish the boat was cheaper because they can not afford a boat in this price range. I am welling to bet that a person that would say something like that is probably one of those dock walking ducks that wastes their time dreaming of finding a boat that does not require any physical or financial effort to maintain. Good luck with that fantasy. ( please keep on walking by while I am out washing and working on my boat in this 95 degree weather)
Greg, you hit the nail so square on the head! Thank you for that spot on comment!
@@AquaCultured It’s obvious I’ve gotten grumpy in my old age. At least I didn’t tell them that driving their brother in law’s pontoon boat when he is too drunk to do so, does not make them any type of boat expert. 🥴
For the record, I think you have a Great boat, and those guys are a couple of idiots. Have a great day ‼️ 😊
Thank you so much Steve! Couldn’t agree with you more
I'd never own a diesel anything. That's why it's a noisy boat!
There are pros and cons for Diesel vs Gas. For boats of this size, diesel is the way to go for many reasons. And these are 1500hp diesel engines so they are not going to be whisper quiet
just another sales pitch
Love this
Great tour
Thank you so much Brian!
Huge living space for a 44 footer!!!
About as big as it gets!
What a great tour. No nonsense, just thoroughly professional. Love it.
Thank you so much for that nice compliment!
Amazing boat! Can't believe that huge engine room. The engine room on my 36' GB is "crawl around" at best.
Thanks Tim. It is crazy how big of an engine room it is on an under 50’ boat.
Superb content!
Thank you so much Dan!
Thanks for showing your procedure. Our boat is always in fresh water in Georgian Bay and air is not needed as much as Florida obviously. Wondering, is this still required from time to time in fresh water? Thanks!
Thanks so much for tuning in. That is a great question, I have not done much freshwater boating. I would imagine you could get some sort of scale buildup, or freshwater mollusk growth, so I think an acid treatment would be a good idea as well. Also, you tend to get other crud that builds up in the lines, so it’s good to blast that stuff out of there to keep things running efficiently
Does the helmsman have a seat?
Are you talking about second seat up on the flybridge, or a seat down at the lower helm. At the lower helm, there is no seat at the wheel. Up on the flybridge there is the Stidd Helm Chair at the wheel, and bench seats on each side
@@AquaCultured Thank you.
Someone is going to get a great boat! Can’t wait to see your next one.
They certainly are, she’s a special vessel no doubt! Thank you so much, I can’t wait for the next vessel!
Love these classic Defevers. Clear to see she has been lovingly maintained by you.
Thank so much Carl! It’s hard not to love the DeFever lines
Did I miss it? Bow thrusters?
No bow thruster, just twin screw control
One of my favorite boats. Are you getting another boat or going to shore?
The plan is to get another (larger) boat. May be land based in the interim
Excellent overview!
Really appreciate that Larry!
Wait? What? Selling your baby?
I know! Who would have thought the day was going to come. Hope you guys are doing well on the sister ship!
Beautiful vessel!
Thank you Scott! I do adore her
Butch Great tour of Aqua-Cultured and she looks outstanding. I have watched your videos over the years and know you are VERY meticulous on everything onboard. You never take short cuts and do everything in the proper manner ( AC unit, Generator rebuild ) and it really shows as Aqua-Cultured is spic & span clean. I did note the epirb unit mounted topside LOL Don't be bothered by the rude comments as there are trolls everywhere, you will sell the boat and move to your next adventure. Congratulations on getting married and I wish you both happiness.
Richard, that really means a lot! Thank you so much for the kind words and support. Lol yeah that EPIRB! It’s always funny to see the experts (trolls) chiming in. Thanks again, more to come!
Nice boat.
Thanks Paul!
Most of these boat sell for $75 to $100k in good shape. With that water stains on the teak I would thing closer to $75
Defever 44s run for twice that. My parents bought a 2000 44 OC in 2019 for $230k and it has only gone up in value.
I've followed you for a while and know this boat is your baby and very well cared for. Definitely interested in purchasing, email sent.
That you for being such a supportive follower. Looking forward to discussing your interest in the vessel
So happy for you. Welcome Jennifer and munchkin. I look forward to seeing how your adventure unfolds. Always great to see the old neighborhood lol. It was a great place to raise children. Dock 4 rules lol.
Dock 4 definitely rules!
Great tour video Butch. Props to your first mate's video skills. Was surprised to see you wanting to part with her. Great vessel in top condition. Best of luck with the sale and look forward to see whats next.

which boat do you have in mind as your next boat?
We don’t have something in particular yet, we have a list of criteria we want the next one to meet. For starters, we are looking for something larger and with more staterooms! Stay tuned, thanks for watching!
Capt. Butch I've seen your boat tours before they were good, this one is so so professional (credit to your wife)🤭 I can't wait to see your next boat.
Thank you Ronald!! My wife definitely deserves credit for this one!
OVER PRICED !!!! To much Teak work and other issues for a 35 year old DeFever. We are active buyers and this pricing should be $149m range
Asking and getting are two different things ..when does anyone ever ask for what they want or should you always ask for more And have room to move ???
Instead of a rude comment, submit your lowball offer.
Move along, little doggie. Don't hate on the boat because you're too lazy to keep up with it. Even new boats need work, so if you just want to get on the boat and go ... Take a Cruise ... lol 😆
You must have an official pricing. Note the price is way too much. The boat nice but old for the price.
Nice boat but you must be smoking some crack for asking 195K for that old 44 foot boat.
Dude take that $6100 a year you pay for insurance and invest it.. Or just put it in a high yield account of some sorts.. Thats an insane amount for a boat
